GARDA TOUR
PRESENTATION
In his "Travel in Italy", Goethe wrote:
"with which ardent desire I would have my friends here with me for a moment to enjoy the view in front of me! For this evening I should have been in Verona but next to me there was this majestic sight of nature, this delightful picture, Lake Garda and I couldn't give up. I feel compensated for having prolonged my walk...."
On this tour you visit the shores of the well known Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy and the most Mediterranean of the alpine lakes. You see luxuriant vegetation such as olive-trees, citrus plantations, palm trees and oleanders.
Total km: 145
|
You start from Riva del Garda and you follow the road which runs alongside the lake, driving along the "olive cost". The first village you go through is Torbole, the wind surfers' paradise. You continue through enchanting and beautiful landscapes with many inlets, villages and castles. You pass Malcesine and Torri del Benaco and, with them, Scaligeri castles and historical centres.
You arrive first in the romantic Punta San Vigilio and then in Bardolino, in the middle of the homonymous vines. You carry on with your journey, passing through Lazise with its medieval walls, Peschiera del Garda, a venetian border fort, Sirmione with its beautiful foreshortenings on the lake and Desenzano del Garda, with its roman excavations and the choreography of the old port.
From here you take the road that runs alongside the western shore which brings you back towards Riva. You stop in Salò, beautiful town situated on an inlet with many green hills, and then in Gardone, where you can visit the Vittoriale. Once you have passed the Alto Garda Bresciano Park, you arrive in Limone del Garda and you finish in Riva. This tour gives you the opportunity to know one of the areas which has been the destination of the most eminent "mitteleuropea" elite since the nineteenth century and it is now a tourist area of international repute.
